The Department of History of Art’s foundation is one of the world’s leading centres for advanced research in the field. We aim to deliver a rigorous and stimulating research in the history of art and architecture. The department makes full use of Cambridge’s unique holdings of art and architecture. The University offers an opportunity for independent research under the supervision of expert members.


Candidates will get one-to-one supervision. They can expect five one-hour supervision per term in their first year with their supervisors, and three one-hour supervisions per term for the next two or three years. Candidates will be given an opportunity to attend seminars and events to develop skills to produce successful theses.
