The University encourages PhD scholars to participate in research seminars and guests lectures to explore the social and intellectual life of the department, where a series of talks and discussions on Art and history are held. The department has links with other departments of the University as well as local museums and galleries.

The University of Bristol helps to prepare scholars to explore the existing work in the history of art. The University supports interdisciplinary approaches and has expertise in topics relevant to art and music in both the medieval and modern periods as well as issues of art and race.
